The Palaces on the Elbe River

One of my favorite tours is a stroll in the parks of the three palaces overlooking the Elbe River. There, you experience peace and solitude – in the middle of a metropolis.

Secluded spots next to surprising architecture, spectacular views of Dresden and the Elbe River Valley as well as culinary delights in one of the restaurants or cafés – all that you’ll find within an easy mid-afternoon’s stroll.

And to top all that – how about a glass of wine from the very vineyard you are looking on?

Perfect ending to a lovely afternoon.

Plauen and Altcoschütz

A roundtrip through Coschütz and Plauen will bring us first to the historic center of Altcoschütz, where the origin of a typically original Slav circular village can still be detected.

Steps in a wood will bring us into the Plauen’sche Grund, about 60 m (or about 180 feet) below. We will see the industrial monument of the Felsenkeller-brewery and follow the Weißeritz-brook over an old bridge into the Bienert-garden. Mr. Bienert owned a flour mill in the 19th century, made a fortune and became a sponsor.

We will pass that mill (in the process of being reconstructed), then a church. The tour will end at the small monument for Gottlieb Traugott Bienert.

Buchmuseum

Have you ever heard of the “Bookmuseum”? Part of the university’s library real treasures can be detected.

Panometer

Modern with a historic topic – the “Panometer”. Paintings, so vivid, they let us feel a part of a long gone history.
